The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disolved its Joint Border Patrol Team (JBPT) over allegations bordering on partaking in smuggling and manhandling of some smugglers.
The dissolution was made public via a statement the Public Relations Officer of the NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada released, where it was said that the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has a hand in the development.
Recall that the House of Representatives on December 11, mandated its Committees on Customs and Excise, Defence, to investigate the operations and activities of the NCS across the nation’s borders over alleged complicity in aiding smuggling and involvement in brutality against Nigerians.
Maiwada in this statement said the dissolution is in line with NCS’s efforts to retool its strategy in the management of borders in 2025.
“This strategy is aimed at removing bottlenecks associated with trade, strengthening border security, combating smuggling, and facilitating legitimate trade,” he said.
