The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission said power consumers with prepaid meters stand the risk of losing it if they fail to update them.
NERC stated this via a tweet on its official handle where it said the update must be done between now and November next year to escape the ugly situation, adding that meter update is not peculiar to Nigeria but a global practice.
“If you have a prepaid meter, it may be time for an update. From November, 2024, you may not be able to recharge your meter. However, updating is easy and free.
“Discos (distribution companies) shall commence issuance of two free Key Change Tokens which will update your meter. The update will not affect the units in your meter nor will it make your meter run faster than usual. Contact your Disco for more information,” the power regulator wrote.
