A video of an officer of the Department of State Services (DSS) under duress claiming Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Adamawa state, Hudu Yunusa-Ari, collected N2bn in bribe to act disgracefully is trending.
Yunusa-Ari infamously usurped the power of the Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Mele in Saturday’s supplementary elections in the state, with the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri home and dry announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed Binani as winner to the chagrin of many.
As a result, he earned himself the beating of his life from political louts loyal to Gov. Fintiri, while INEC overruled him.
An of officer of the DSS simply identified as Isa believed to have had a hand in the REC’s impropriety was also given similar treatment by the louts.
In the course, Isa who spoke in Hausa under interrogation, denied his involvement, claimed he was on the spot to arrest Yunusa-Ari and admiting the embattled REC collected N2bn Bribe from the APC candidate to perpetrate the illegality.
Isa’s employer has reacted to his assault by a statement from its spokesman, Dr Peter Afunanya.
It read, “The attention of the DSS has been drawn to a trending video on social media in which someone suspected to be its staff was allegedly manhandled by some political miscreants in Adamawa. This followed developments arising from the supplementary governorship election in the state.
“The Service wishes to inform the public that it has commenced a full investigation into the circumstances that led to the incident.
“While calling for calm, the Service also implores concerned parties in Adamawa State to remain peace-loving and shun violence.”
