The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) on Wednesday threw light on the resit of failed subjects for West African Senior Secondary Certificate (WASSCE).

The Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, John Kapi had in an interview with a radio station in Ghana said the examination body would henceforth be having a resit exam for candidates to retake their WASSCE papers as early as January and February 2025, ending the previous system whereby candidates had to wait for the next private exam cycle.

By a fresh report, WAEC stated that the new order does not apply to Nigerian candidates.

This it said via an official tweet posted on its X handle which reads:“Please Note: The news circulating, about WAEC conducting a “resit examination” for candidates, does not apply to Nigerian candidates.

“However, candidates with outstanding grades can register for WASSCE (PC1)2025 which commences soon.”

It added that the resit examinations, referred to as WASSCE PC1, will run from 24th January to 15th February 2025 and students whose results were cancelled due to issues unrelated to bans for malpractice are eligible to sit for these exams.
