Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has expressed hope that his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu, suffered the fate of David Lyon.
Lyon of the All progressives Congress, APC, had won Bayelsa governorship election but on the eve of the swearing-in the Supreme Court overturned his victory on the basis of inconsistency in names written on the academic certificates of his running mate.
Makinde is hoping a repeat of the Bayelsa scenario in the Ondo governorship election held in October where APC candidate, Akeredolu undid the flagbearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Eyitayo Jegede, who is challenging the victory at the tribunal.
The Oyo governor on Thursday at a meeting of PDP leaders in South West held in the State Government House, Ibadan, said all hope is not lost in regards to Ondo state, saying he wished Akeredolu suffered Lyon’s fate.
His word, “In Ondo State, during the last election, it is not as if the people of the state don’t like our party or candidate, it was the party structure that failed to do the needful all over, which made us be where we are currently.
“But I believe in God and I will tell you why. We were in this same position in Bayelsa. The governor-elect was already rehearsing before they brought him a letter that he is going nowhere. If you know how to pray, keep praying because I know there is nothing God cannot do, even in Ondo State for PDP.”
