A white woman who is legally married to a Nigerian and had a fake marriage with another Nigerian, an illegal immigrant, has been jailed for six months in UK.
35-year-old Emma Louise Evans(pictured) was sentenced by a Burnley Crown Court for her false wedding with Nigerian Kazeem Kolade at Blackburn Register Office in 2012.
Judge Jonathan Gibson who handed down the judgment to Evans, a babysitter by occupation said: ‘Offences of this kind strike at the heart of the immigration system and the message must go out to all those thinking of engaging in this kind of behaviour that the punishment will severe.’
Evans is legally married to another Nigerian, Stephen Akinseye.
The court heard how Evans was introduced to Mr. Kolade, who had first come into the UK on a student visa in 2010, via a man named ‘Patrick’ on Facebook, and had a fake marriage on July 2, 2012 so as to gain residency for the Nigerian.
It was said that Kolade has since disappeared and the ‘authorities have not yet caught up with him’.
