Former Chelsea player John Obi Mikel has shared insight into what stood in the way of his former club, Chelsea, from signing Victor Osimhen.
The proposal during the summer to have the Napoli striker, who has a running battle with the Italian side, on Chelsea book fell through, and culminated in his loan to Turkish giant, Galatasaray.
Obi, a Chelsea icon, who was familiar with the failed negotiation, has said that there is possibility of Osimhen joining the English side in the nearest future.
The ex-international made this known on his platform: Obi One Podcast, where he said time constraint was responsible for the failed negotiation.
According to him: “We were very, very close – I’ll put it that way. We were hours away from getting this deal done but it was just slight issues, slight little problems, that we just couldn’t get over the line.
“And then, we didn’t have much time. The one time you want the seconds and minutes and hours to slow down a bit, it just didn’t work. I think both sides really played their part in terms of getting a deal done.”
