One of the leading figures in Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti has explained the reason meetings of the Yoruba social-political group no longer hold in Akure, his base.
The practice in Afenifere is to have meetings at their leader’s home state. For a while, it has shifted from Akure to Ijebu in Ogun State where Pa Ayo Adebanjo hails from.
The group has been in leadership crisis stemmed from Fasoranti’s endorsement of the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, alongside some members of the group, contrary to the position of its the successor, acting leader, Adebanjo who is rooting for the candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi.
Coming from the divergent positions, Pa Fasoranti claimed he never ceded power to Adebanjo, claiming a rumour that he has mental health issue born out of old age was responsible for the change in the meeting venue.
“Yes, that’s the best. The reason the meeting was shifted from here was a misunderstanding, misinterpretation and misconception of some people that I was going senile and that I couldn’t comprehend. So, when I heard that, I reacted and the person who said that regretted saying so. So, no problem,” Punchng quoted him as saying
