The defection of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress has drawn reactions from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Wike and Fubara are not on good terms with the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu on Rivers State one of the fall-outs of their rift.
The governor recently dumped PDP for APC, a defection the minister has his say on in an interview with newsmen.
Pushing back at suggestion that Fubara is now APC leader in Rivers, and in the party’s register in possession of the number 001: “There is nothing like 001 in the state. You register in your ward, and your local government is in your ward. Everybody registers in his own ward. You could be the first person to register, but not in the sense that by becoming governor you automatically become leader of the party.”
He acknowledged that usually governors often lead their parties in their states but insisted that leadership is not conferred by office alone.
“Leadership is not because I am a governor. You must have something that makes you a leader,” he added.
