A woman, Abigael Bright, has been arrested for falsely accusing a commercial motorcyclist of abducting her in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The motorcycle rider was conveying Miss Bright within the Ore metropolis on June 4 when the passenger cried out that the former had kidnapped her.
Her alarm which gained attention of those within the vicinity of the scene prompted mob to ambush the rider, beating him to a pulp.
The moment which was caught on camera by enthusiasts and posted online sparked fear or kidnapping activities in the area.
The police along the line stepped into the matter to rescue the rider, who sustained injuries to his face and other parts of his body.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said preliminary investigations had revealed that the kidnapping allegation was unfounded.
He disclosed that the suspect had been taken into custody and was assisting investigators, while the injured motorcyclist had received medical attention.
“The Command has commenced a full investigation into the matter. Preliminary findings indicate that the allegation was false.
“The suspect is in custody and appropriate legal action will be taken at the conclusion of investigations,” he said.
