One person has been killed while five others were abducted in bandits’ attack in Niger State during which a church and police station were also set ablaze.

The affected church is United Missionary Church of Africa in Agwara, and the police station in the local government.

Bandits stormed the area on Saturday at 6.00am first torching the church before moving to Sokonba, a neighbouring village that shares a border with Kabe, which was recently attacked.

According to report, the assailants looted foodstuffs and other valuables before killing an elderly woman in Kabe town and abducting five residents.

Speaking with newsmen, the son of the late Emir of the area, Murtala Dantoro said peace had eluded the place.

Dantoro entreated government to have boots on the ground in Agwara.

“These attacks are not isolated incidents; they are persistent and escalating. The absence of a permanent and well-equipped military formation in Agwara has left the people vulnerable and exposed.

“The state and federal governments must come to our aid urgently before these suspected bandits chase us out of our homeland,” he pleaded.
