A 43-year-old woman has died after she was allegedly hit on the forehead with a pestle by her co-wife during a domestic incident in Bauchi.
The suspect, Hauwa’u Haruna, 33, was arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command following the incident at Tafawa Balewa Housing Estate, Bauchi.
Police spokesman, SP Nafiu Habib, said the incident occurred at about 4:05pm on September 27, 2026, after the C-Division received a report of trouble involving the two women.
According to the police, preliminary investigation showed that Hauwa’u, the second wife, allegedly picked up a pestle and struck Jamila Adamu, the first wife, on the forehead.
The blow reportedly left Jamila unconscious.
Police detectives quickly moved to the scene, documented the incident and rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi.
But Jamila was later pronounced dead by a doctor.
Her remains have been deposited at the hospital mortuary pending autopsy, police said.
The alleged murder weapon — the pestle — was also recovered and taken as an exhibit, while Hauwa’u was arrested.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution.
Police said the suspect allegedly acted while experiencing hallucinations.
The command also urged members of the public to take domestic violence seriously and seek timely medical and psychosocial assistance for relatives showing signs of mental health challenges.
