Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, on Tuesday, shifted the blame for deaths from Meningitis in the state from himself to God and fornication.
Gov. Yari whose state has recorded the highest deaths from the disease caused by bacteria and viral infection with over 200 persons dead was last weekend accused of negligence and ignoring repeated warnings to prepare for the outbreak by medical doctors under the aegis of Nigeria Medical Association, Zamfara State chapter.
But speaking to newsmen at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, after meeting with President Muhammdu Buhari, Gov. Yari said the disease was caused by sin and the consequence of vexing God.
“What we know before now is meningitis A, and the World Health Organisation (WHO) carried out vaccinations against this type A virus in Zamfara, and several other states.
“But because our people get involved in illicit activities, God now decided to send Type C virus, which has no vaccination.
“As far as I am concern, the reason we now have this problem in our hands is because of fornication.”
