A 19-year-old woman, identified as Miss Ugo, has appealed against the possible imprisonment of her father despite accusing him of sexually abusing her for years.
Ugo alleged that her 43-year-old father, Uche Didie, began abusing her in 2019 when she was 12 and continued until September 6, 2026, when she finally opened up to someone outside the family.
The teenager, who recently completed secondary school, lives with her parents in Opeloyeru, Maya, Ikorodu, Lagos State.
According to Ugo, she decided to speak out because she wanted the alleged abuse to stop, but she was worried about what would happen to her family if her father was jailed.
Didie was reportedly arrested by members of the Oodua People’s Congress and handed over to the Police Tactical Unit in Araro, Ikorodu, before being transferred to the Gender Unit headed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Oluwatoyin Kazeem.
Recounting her ordeal, Ugo alleged that her father was the only man she had ever had sexual relations with and claimed the abuse occurred about once or twice a month.
She said she eventually confided in a close friend, who is the son of the family’s pastor. The friend reportedly informed his father, leading to the matter being brought to the attention of the authorities.
Ugo alleged that her father initially forced himself on her and subsequently warned her against revealing the alleged abuse, threatening to beat her if she told anyone. She also claimed that he sometimes gave her gifts.
She said she had previously told her mother about the alleged abuse, but her father denied the accusation when confronted.
Despite his arrest, Ugo said she wanted him released, explaining that she did not want his incarceration to destroy the family. She said she would no longer live with her parents and planned to stay either with her grandmother in Agege or her aunt in Egbeda.
The teenager is the second of three children in the family.
However, Didie reportedly gave a different account when questioned by OPC members.
He allegedly claimed that the inappropriate relationship started only in 2026 and maintained that it had not gone far before his wife confronted him.
He also reportedly blamed an unnamed man, alleging that the man had told him that some people wanted to “use” his daughter and that this influenced his actions.
The allegations have not been proven in court, and the matter is expected to be subjected to further police investigation and judicial proceedings.
