On Saturday, students and workers in Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), were thrown into mourning mood after two undergraduates, Olabiyi Emmanuel and Olokun Babatunde, got drowned while taking selfies in a canoe on a river in Akure, the Ondo State.

The deceased were both 300-level students. Olabiyi was studying Agric and Environmental Engineering while Olokun was in the department of Project Management Technology.

The duo had reportedly gone to the river with two other students after finishing their entrepreneurial training at the laboratory of the department of fishery and aquaculture behind great hall in Obakekere area of Akure.

According to President of the Students Union Government, Mr. Adeyinka Olasehinde, the four students went to a river close to the university and took selfies in a canoe stationed on the river.

Olaseinde explained that the canoe capsized while the students were taking the pictures, adding that the two survivors knew how to swim.
