The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said Nigeria’s peculiar topography necessitated the use of donkeys, boats and various other transport modes to get election materials to destinations.

Mohammed remarked this in the interview he granted foreign media in Washington, United States in defence of the just- concluded elections that is deemed in some quarters to be under par.

On the delay in delivering election materials to certain areas; the minister said it was the consequence of the varying landscape and the naira scarcity occasioned by the monetary policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

“In some areas you need to use donkeys, human portals, boats to access some of these difficult areas. We also know the challenge of unanticipated cash crunch that slowed down logistic movements.

“The redesigning of the naira did not help matters because some of the people who transported the materials insisted on cash payment which was not available,” NAN quoted him as saying.
