The ruling All Progressives Congress has beaten the Independent National Electoral Commission’s deadline, completing the electronic upload of all its candidates for the 2027 general elections.
The APC National Chairman, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, disclosed this on Sunday, saying the early completion demonstrated the party’s organisational strength and readiness for the elections.
The party completed the exercise before the original August 8 deadline set by INEC.
The electoral commission later extended the deadline by three days to Tuesday, August 11, following appeals from political parties that were yet to complete their submissions.
Yilwatda said the APC had uploaded candidates for all elective positions, from the State Houses of Assembly to the presidential election.
He said the development showed that the party had moved beyond political slogans and put in place the structures required to run a nationwide political organisation.
According to him, the exercise involved the nomination, documentation, verification and electronic submission of thousands of candidates across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Yilwatda said the process required tight coordination between the party’s national secretariat, state chapters, candidates and election management teams.
He described the successful completion as particularly significant given the size of the APC’s nationwide structure.
The APC chairman, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, said the development was a major test of the party’s ability to coordinate its structures and candidates.
Yilwatda said the APC’s performance should serve as an indication of its preparedness to govern Nigeria.
He argued that parties seeking Nigerians’ votes must demonstrate organisational capacity, discipline and competence, rather than relying solely on campaign promises.
He warned that any political organisation unable to coordinate its internal processes and meet statutory deadlines should face questions over its readiness to manage the affairs of the country.
Yilwatda said the APC’s early completion of the candidate-upload exercise would now allow the party to concentrate on other aspects of its 2027 preparations.
These, he said, included campaign coordination, candidate engagement, grassroots mobilisation, policy communication and reconciliation among party members.
He, however, urged APC members to remain united and focused, stressing that completing the upload was only the beginning of the party’s preparations for the elections.
The APC chairman also said the party would take its “Renewed Hope” message to communities across the country as it seeks to defend its position at the federal and state levels.
The 2027 elections are expected to be fiercely contested, with opposition parties seeking to wrest the presidency from the APC and make significant gains across the country.
While the ruling party has concluded its candidate submission, other political parties have until Tuesday to complete their uploads following INEC’s extension.
Yilwatda commended members of the National Working Committee, state party leadership, candidates, election management teams and other officials who participated in the exercise.
He described the achievement as a collective effort and said the APC would continue strengthening its structures ahead of the 2027 contest.
The national chairman said the party would present itself to Nigerians as the choice for “competence, continuity, stability and national development” in the next general election.
