African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has declared that the opposition knows how to stop President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in 2027, but has refused to reveal its game plan.

Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, said the opposition was working behind the scenes to frustrate Tinubu’s re-election bid, insisting that its strategy would not be made public.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, the ADC chieftain recalled how Tinubu fought to secure a second term as Lagos State governor, arguing that the opposition was also working hard to challenge his hold on power.

“I can’t tell you about strategy in public,” Momodu said, adding that the ADC knew what to do to prevent the president from returning to Aso Rock in 2027.

“We know what to do to make sure that he does not get that second term,” he declared.

Momodu also questioned the credibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Tinubu, alleging that the president had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body.

He claimed that many Nigerians, including some of Tinubu’s supporters, were doubtful about the president’s ability to preside over a free and fair election.

“If you ask an average Nigerian today about Tinubu, do you trust Tinubu to conduct a free and fair election? I can tell you, 90 per cent of them will say no,” he said.

“Nobody trusts Tinubu to run a free and fair election, including his own supporters,” he added.

The opposition figure also dismissed suggestions that Tinubu would refuse to accept defeat if he lost the election, arguing that the determination of ordinary Nigerians would be a major factor in the contest.

Momodu said his confidence was not based solely on the ADC but also on Nigerians who, according to him, did not want the president to return for another four years.

He further alleged that fear had weakened the ability of governors, judges and lawmakers to challenge the president.

According to him, some political office holders publicly support Tinubu while privately hoping for his defeat because they are uncomfortable with what he described as the president’s dominance.

“Governors are scared, judges are scared, legislators are scared. So, Tinubu has become a god that nobody is ready to face and say, ‘Oga, you’ve done your best. Please go home,’” he said.

Momodu’s remarks come as political parties and opposition figures intensify preparations for the 2027 general election, with Tinubu’s potential second term expected to remain a major issue in the emerging political contest.
