Three students of the Edo State School of Nursing accused of raping a 6-year-old girl have been arraigned before an Oredo Magistrate’s Court in Benin, the Edo State capital.

The suspects, Egbai Kenneth, 26, Paul Aghama, 22(both pictured), and Osemwegie Jeffery, were arraigned on Wednesday on two counts bordering on indecent assault.

The prosecutor, Corporal Evborhuan Kingsley told the court presided over by magistrate Mrs. M. Adebanjo that the sexual assault was committed by the three suspects at various times between the months of March and May 2015 at the male hostel of Edo State School of Nursing at Sapele Road where the victim’s mother runs a retail shop.

According to him, “The suspects used their nails to penetrate the victim’s vagina and, thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo State.”

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were granted bail by Adebanjo in the sum of N300,000 each, with one surety each in like sum while the case was adjourned till November 20, 2015.
