OrijoReporter.com, Police officers promoted over Evans' arrest

Thirty-five officers of the Nigeria Police Force have been promoted following their roles in the arrest of notorious kidnappers, Chukwudemeje George Onwamadike aka Evans.

Evan was arrested six years after he was declared wanted by the police.

The search, however, came to an end last Saturday, after a police special squad led by Abba Kyari, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), arrested him at his No 3, Fred Shoboyede Street, Magodo, Lagos home.

Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, was said to have approved the promotion of policemen who participated in the hunt and eventual arrest.

Those involved in the operation were 35 police officers. Among them were operatives of Intelligence Response Team (IRT), eleven officers from the Technical Intelligence Unit (TIU) and one person from the IGP monitoring section.

With effect from June 16, 2017, sources said twenty-nine of them were sergeants and have been promoted to rank of Inspector. Three, who hitherto were Corporals were said to have been promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
