One Abiodun Onipede has been arrested in Ogun State for attempting to kill himself over his inability to refund a fifty Thousand ‘Lapo’ loan.

The father-of-five had sneaked into the bush along Ayetoro in Abeokuta to commit suicide, and had tied a rope to a tree, which he planned to hang himself when a member of Anti-Vandal team of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ogun State Command sighted him and rushed to the scene to stop him.

Subsequently he was arrested and paraded before newsmen.

Onipede blamed his financial situation for his suicide attempt, saying he lost one of his children due to poverty.

According to him, “I am frustrated, have been owing several people and cannot cater for my family as a head.

“The Lapo officials are using OPC to harass me and even arrested my wife because of the money.

” My mother is sick and i cannot pay her hospital bill. I was told she is now on the street begging to survive.”
