A dispute over a land at Kuchibuyi community in Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory, has cost the Chief Imam of the area, Abubakar Yaqub, his son’s life allegedly at the hands of trigger-happy police.
The deceased’s name is given as Attahiru Abubakar.
Report says his killing occurred on Saturday in Kuchibuyi when a tussle over the ownership of a landed property between the Chief Imam’s family and an estate developer descended into violence, with the latter said to have invited the police.
The cops, it was alleged took side with the developer while the youths on the side of the Imam’s family were reportedly unruly.
In the ensuing confrontation, report has it that the police opened fire, resulting in the killing of Attahiru from gunshot with the Chief Imam himself and his other son, Abass, also hit by bullets.
The latter it was further gathered is in critical condition in the hospital.
“The FCT Police Command received a distress call regarding a civil unrest incident stemming from a land dispute at Kuchibuyi community under Byazin Division.
“The Divisional Police Officers of Byazin and Kubwa swiftly mobilised to the scene and brought the situation under control. Arrests have been made, and the investigation is currently ongoing.
“The Commissioner of Police strongly condemns the actions of youths attacking police officers who were on a mission to restore law and order.
“Such behaviour will not be condoned, and firm action will be taken against anyone who attacks police or other security personnel responding to distress calls,” a statement by FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Josephine Adeh, on the matter read.
