The FCT Police Command has broken its silence over a viral report alleging that young people in Nyanya, Abuja, were selling their kidneys for money, dismissing the claim as false and unverified.
The rumour, which spread widely on social media, alleged that some youths in the Nyanya area had surrendered their kidneys in exchange for cash, with claims that an agent in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was behind the alleged trade.
But the police have denied having any record of such an incident, urging residents not to panic over what it described as a misleading publication.
FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command had neither received any complaint nor confirmed any report of kidney sales or human organ trafficking in Nyanya.
She explained that no statement or official communication had been released by the command confirming the allegation, despite claims circulating online.
Adeh warned members of the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing fear and unnecessary tension among residents.
She, however, encouraged anyone with credible information about human organ trafficking or any other security threat within the Federal Capital Territory to report to the nearest police station or contact the command through 07038979348 or 08028940883.
