The family of late Nollywood icon Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has moved to shut down a viral claim that his daughter, Shakirat “Kira” Taiwo, has welcomed a baby boy.
The rumour, which spread rapidly on social media alongside a short video celebrating the alleged arrival of the newborn, claimed the child was a “carbon copy” of the veteran actor and suggested the birth happened shortly after Ogogo’s burial.
But the family has described the report as false, urging the public to ignore the circulating information and respect their privacy as they mourn their patriarch.
In a statement shared on Instagram on Wednesday, Haleemah “Lima” Taiwo, one of Ogogo’s daughters, issued a disclaimer over the viral claim.
She said the family had been inundated with calls and messages from concerned friends and relatives seeking confirmation about the report, prompting them to set the record straight.
Lima wrote: “Please disregard the information currently circulating that my sister has given birth. This is not true.
“We have been receiving several calls and messages from friends and family asking about it, so we felt the need to clarify publicly.
“At a time when our family is mourning the loss of our father, we kindly ask everyone to stop spreading or sharing unverified information about our family.”
The family also thanked well-wishers for their prayers while appealing for understanding during their period of grief.
The controversy comes days after the death of Ogogo, a respected figure in Yoruba cinema, who passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 following a battle with stage-four cancer.
The actor, whose career spanned decades and produced several memorable roles in Yoruba films, was buried the following day according to Islamic rites in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State.
Since his passing, tributes have poured in from colleagues, fans and industry stakeholders, with many describing him as one of the pillars of the Yoruba movie industry.
The latest false birth claim has, however, forced his family to appeal for caution as they continue to grieve his loss.
