Adegboyega Awomolo, Justice Walter Onnoghen’s lawyer in the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria’s legal battle against the federal government has confirmed the resignation of his client.

Report emerged today that embattled Onnoghen had turned in his resignation letter, and submitted it to the Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Malam Abba Kyari.
Awomolo confirmed the rumour to AFP saying, “Yes, he (Onnoghen) resigned yesterday.”
Recall that the National Judicial Council, NJC, had recommended to Buhari in its report on the crisis trailing Onnoghen’s suspension his removal adding that the president should give him soft landing by allowing him to have his full retirement benefits.
