Former Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has thrown his weight behind the call for abolition of the Presidential system for its parliamentary counterpart.
Recall that a bill in the green chamber seeking to return Nigeria to parliamentary system gained traction with sixty lawmakers and many others including prominent member of the Northern Elders Forum and former vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Ango Abdullahi.
In the same vein, Aregbesola lent his voice to the system of government while baring his mind on the issue at the ongoing National Dialogue on the constitutional future of Nigeria in Honour of a renowned constitutional lawyer, Prof. Ben Nwabueze, organised by the Patriots (A Pan Nigerian Group of Eminent National Leaders of Thought) with the theme, “Lawful Procedures for Actualising a People’s Constitution for Nigeria.”
The former Osun governor opined that the country is in danger of experiencing death if it continues to tread on the current path saying, “Can Nigeria survive executive presidential representation. The answer is no.”
He also said, “In seeking appropriate democratic representation let’s look at production as a basis of representation. We don’t have the best form of representation. People are engaged more in production. Productive acts and those engaged in production should be given opportunity to elect their best.”
