A former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-rufai has alleged that the leadership of Nigeria is currently in the hands of bandits.
El-Rufai made this claim on Saturday in Abuja at the 60th birthday lecture of the former Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, with whom he is part of a coalition of some high-profile politicians against the reelection of President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027 election.
Speaking against the backdrop of the lecture’s theme: ‘Weaponization of Poverty in Nigeria’, the ex-Kaduna State governor rationalised their efforts to forge a strong opposition against the incumbent.
Implicit in his speech was that those presently in charge of Nigeria are urban bandits, who must be dethroned.
His actual words: “Nigeria is in its biggest trouble since 1914 and that is why we are together working and conspiring to build a coalition to take Nigeria back on track because it is off track.
“It has turned to this level because we have allowed bandits, not the ones in the bushes but the ones in the urban areas called the urban bandits to take over leadership.”
