Governor Ademola Adeleke has secured another term in office after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared him winner of the 2026 Osun State governorship election with 511,067 votes.

Adeleke, who contested on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), who polled 444,815 votes.

The result gives Adeleke a winning margin of 66,252 votes, as the electoral commission concluded the collation of results from all 30 Local Government Areas of the state.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 17,180 votes, while the African Action Congress (AAC) recorded 1,458 votes.

Adeleke also carried the day across 19 of Osun’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji won 11 councils, underlining the closely fought nature of the contest despite Adeleke’s eventual 66,252-vote advantage.

INEC’s final figures showed that 2,339,544 voters were registered, with 1,010,684 accredited for the election.

The victory marks another major political triumph for Adeleke, who first won the Osun governorship in 2022 before defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 contest. He is now set to continue as governor for a second term.

The election, held across the state on Saturday, August 15, followed a fiercely contested campaign between Adeleke and Oyebamiji, with the APC candidate seeking to wrest power from the incumbent.

With the final results declared, the battle now shifts from the polling booths to the post-election phase as the parties assess the outcome of the keenly fought contest.
