The leader of the military troop that perpetrated the shootings of unarmed youths protesting against police brutality and long years of misrule at Lekki tollgate on Tuesday night has been identified as Brigadier General Francis Omata.

The troop shot at the EndSARS protesters killing eight of them and injured several others.

The genocide has sparked outrage online with commentators trolling Omata.
“Those that butchered our kids at Lekki are not soldiers but beasts.
“They were led by one Brig. Gen. F.O. Omata. His name shall go down in infamy & shame for eternity. The blood that he shed will haunt his family & lineage from generation to generation. #BuhariMustResign #EndSAR,” former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, wrote.
“Brig Gen F. O Omata, Special Taskforce(Operation Safe Haven) led the attack on Protesters in lekki. He led the Lekki Massacre,” a Twitter user @Franeb also wrote.
“Brig. Gen. F.O Omata is the commander in charge at the Lekki toll gate,” @LauraofLagos stated.
According to multiple reports, FOmata was promoted to the position of Brigadier General on the 11th of November, 2019. He was a member of the Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN;
Omata is now the Training officer of 81 Division Headquarters, Lagos.
He studied at Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, Nigeria. He also attended Federal Government College in Okigwe, Imo state.
