The candidate of the Labour Party for Enugu East Senatorial district, Kelvin Chukwu, has won election into Senate.

Kelvin succeeded his brother, the initial candidate of the Labour Party, Barrister Oyibo Chukwu, who was assassinated on February 22 about 72 hours before the presidential and National Assembly elections.

Oyibo’s murder prompted the rescheduling of the Senate election in the area, and culminated in the deceased’s blood-brother, Kelvin to take his place as Labour Party candidate.

Kelvin, who polled a total of 69,136 votes surpassed the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, former governor of the state, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani.

The latter currently representing Enugu East in the red chamber secured 48,701 votes.
