President Bola Tinubu has thrown his weights behind the Senate over the controversy that is trailing 2024 budget.

Senator Abdul Ningi had accused the Red Chamber leadership of adding N3.7tn underground to the budget originally passed much to the discontent of his colleagues.

It led to the Bauchi Central Senator’s suspension for three months.

On Thursday, the President weighed in on the matter when he treated Senate leadership to breaking of Ramadan fast at the Villa.

This was according to his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, in a statement he released in which Tinubu reportedly absolved his guests of the charges Ningi levelled at them.

Quoting Tinubu, Ngelale wrote, “I know the arithmetic of the budget and the numbers that I brought to the National Assembly, and I know what numbers came back.

“I appreciate all of you for the expeditious handling of the budget. Thank you very much.

“Those who are talking about malicious embellishment in the budget; they did not understand the arithmetic and did not refer to the baseline of what I brought. But your integrity is intact.”
