The deceased, who was 55-year-old and a beer parlour owner, allegedly met her death at the hands of Caleb, who was her last born.
Josephine’s killing occurred around 8am at their residence at 31A, Iyamu Street, off Textile Mill Road, Benin City.
Eyewitness said Caleb locked his mother in a room, stabbed and slashed her stomach open with broken bottle repeatedly, and took out her intestine, which he dangled as neighbours forced their ways into the room and overpowered him.
Subsequently, they turned him in to the police and rushed his victim to hospital where she was confirmed dead on arrival.
The motive that prompted the undergraduate to attack his mother was reportedly her refusal to give him money he asked for from her.
Spokesman of the Edo State Police Command, DSP Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident.
