The paper claimed that Osinbajo’s request to police authorities to second Deputy Commissioner (DSP) Abduyari Lafia to serve on the Special Presidential Panel for the Recovery of Public Property was turned down by Idris.
It said Osinbajo had asked for DSP Lafia’s secondment to Special Presidential Panel through a letter dated September 21, 2017.
But instead of acceding to Osibanjo’s request, Idris posted 12 officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police and below to the panel.
According to the publication, Lafia earned the confidence of the panel and that of the Vice-President after he uncovered how a syndicate defrauded a businessman, Mr. Austine Ugochukwu Albert, of $1 million.
It said that excellent job by the cop may have made him fell out with some corrupt elements in the force. He was reportedly recommended for promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police but was withdrawn at the last minute, following his rebuff of alleged pressure from some bigwigs to stay action on the $1 million.
The report said the syndicate from whom Lafia recovered the $1 million attempted to bribe him with $100,000 but he refused.
Following his unyielding position, some police officers allegedly conspired to transfer him from the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja to the Police Academy in Kano, the publication said.
