The reported death of HRH Ogiame Ikenwoli, the 20th Olu of Warri Kingdom is being trailed by controversy with the traditional authorities in the area dismissing the report.

Instead, they claim Ikenwoli was indisposed via a statement the Director of (Olu) Palace Administration, Chief Clement Maleghemi, signed and made available to newsmen.

“The attention of the Palace of His Majesty, Ogiame Ikenwoli, and the Olu of Warri has been drawn to news/social media speculations announcing the sudden demise of His Majesty.”

“We wish to notify the public that His Majesty is indisposed and currently receiving medical attention by a team of qualified medical specialists,” the terse statement reads in part.

However, highly-placed palace source confided in Orijo Reporter that it was true the monarch passed on on Sunday but the rebuttal was necessary in order to abide by Itshekiri tradition, which is against announcing the death of the monarch immediately in order not to create tension among princes and give king makers ample time to arrive at a decision on who to succeed him.
