Two cooks have been arrested in Lagos for poisoned their employers’ food and stole their belongings after they were rushed to the hospital.
The cooks, Victor Hounkpe and David Amusu(pictured) are both Beninoise and were on Tuesday paraded by the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja.
Their employers, a couple, Omowunmi Fadojutimi and her hubby, Nwogu Chinaka had employed David Amusu as a cook in their Lekki home but he left their employ due to supposed ill-health, and recommended Victor Hounkpe.
But two weeks into 34-year-old Victor’s employment, he and David connived to poison the couple and rob them.
Police said on April 22, 2015, Victor on the instruction of the couple made a vegetable soup but added a poisonous substance into it.
The first casualty was Mr. Chinaka, he collapsed after complaining of severe stomach pain. His wife who rushed him to the hospital suffered the same fate at the hospital’s gate. Two of their domestic staff who equally ate the vegetable were also in bad shape.
It was said that in the midst of the storm, Victor and David who then had free access to every corner of the house, moved in, and stole jewelries worth millions of naira including cash.
David and Victor who owned up to the crime during the parade, said they ground ten tablets of Super Appetite drug, an appetite stimulant that equally aid sleep, and put it in the soup, adding that their intention was not to kill the couple but to rob them.
