The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has declared lecturers in the institution of Chinese extraction persona non grata in the campus.
The Vice-Chancellor of the varsity Prof. Charles Esimone, disclosed this to newsmen saying the measure was taken in order to protect the university community and the country form the deadly coronavirus disease.
Esimone explained most of the Chinese working in the school had travelled to China for holiday in December 2019 but had been told to stay put in the East Asian country, the epicentre of the dread diseases and where it originated from.
He added that in order not to ensure the expatriates’ works did not suffer, the school introduced online alternative.
Meanwhile, a Nigerian has contracted Coronavirus. The Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, confirmed this.
Ihekweazu said the patient is a contact of the index case, a 44-year-old Italian man, and has been in isolation since the first case was confirmed.
He however declined to give more information about the new patient.
