Doctors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), have again threatened to down tools on account of alleged mistreatment allegedly by security agents enforcing lockdown order in the fight against COVID-19.
Medical workers in the frontline of the coronavirus fight had complaint that the security agents were harassing them on their ways to work or while returning threatening to withdraw their service in protest.
NARD President Dr. Aliyu Sokomba reiterated the threat after an emergency meeting of the physicians.
A statement credited to Sokomba read: “We have continued to receive shocking news of assaults on doctors across the country, the latest being on a senior member of our association in Akwa Ibom State.
“Even as all the five cases that tested positive to COVID-19 in Akwa Ibom are healthcare workers (including two doctors), doctors in the state have continued to find motivation and rare courage to sustain the fight.”
