All is not well in the mortuary unit of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, Ogun State.
A female corpse found missing at the mortuary is causing a rift.
The relatives of the deceased were on Friday at the hospital to retrieve the body deposited four months ago for burial, but to their dismay, it was nowhere to be found.
The bereaved came all the way from Ijebu-Ode to Sagamu with an ambulance and undertakers, but the corpse, which was their sole mission in the hospital was missing.
The situation caused a stir. It has been taken up by the hospital management who have launched a probe into it.
The Chief Medical Director, Dr. Oluwabunmi Fatungase in a remark on the issue, appealed to the affected family, pledging the hospital management’s resolve to get to the root of the matter, and bring to book any person or group behind it.
The remark in part, “Any circumvention of the quality assurance of the hospital will not be taken lightly and necessary consequences in consonance with the public service rules will be applied on whoever is found culpable
“The present administration in Ogun State has upgraded the mortuary with modern freezers and scaled up its amenities.
“The mortuary service of the hospital has been preferred by many people to keep the remains of their beloved intact until they are ready for burial.”
