Denrele Edun has spoken of the circumstances that shaped him, saying he experienced rejection and hatred from colleagues and family members.

The 34-year-old dancer, video jockey (VJ), and red carpet host, in an interview with New Telegraph, said while he was in University of Lagos where he studied English Education, his colleagues despised him.

He added that he was unpopular among his cousins.

The weird one, however, said the situation shaped his life.

He told the paper: “In my undergraduate days, I used to wear the most wretched clothes ever and I got stigmatised, segregated, oppressed, humiliated, mocked and constantly rebuked for it and that shaped me into becoming a stronger person.

“I used to have close friends who used to constantly run me down, the only exceptions were my siblings and my parents. Even some of my cousins would taunt me, telling me ‘you are a disgrace to this family, no one will notice you.’ But they are the ones that want to be identified with me now.”
