A dispatch rider has been killed in a horrific multiple crash involving two trucks at Ijesha, along the inward Mile 2 axis of Lagos.
The fatal accident occurred on Saturday when a FAW truck, an Iveco truck and the motorcycle rider were involved in the collision.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in a statement by its Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, said its Eagle Response Team rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call.
According to the agency’s preliminary findings, reckless driving and improper use of the road by the two truck drivers triggered the crash.
The FAW truck, with registration number T-30364LA, was reportedly battling with the Iveco truck, marked KSF 958 XV, for right of way when the situation turned deadly.
In the process, the FAW truck hit the Iveco, which then struck the dispatch rider from behind.
The impact proved fatal, leaving the rider dead at the scene.
Police officers from the Okota Division later evacuated the victim’s remains and deposited them at a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.
Emergency responders and the police subsequently removed the two trucks from the main carriageway and parked them at a designated layby to prevent another accident and restore traffic flow.
LASEMA said the emergency operation was successfully completed and the road was declared safe for motorists.
Oke-Osanyintolu expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, while urging motorists, particularly commercial drivers, to exercise greater caution on the roads.
The agency warned drivers against reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and fighting for lanes, stressing that such actions could turn ordinary journeys into deadly tragedies.
LASEMA also appealed to all road users to obey traffic regulations, noting that road safety remains a shared responsibility.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response and cooperation with other agencies to protect lives and property across Lagos State.
