A Medical staff at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Kwara State, have embarked on five-day strike in protest of a female colleague’s assault.
The suspension of services for the said period commenced on Thursday in consequence of the assault on the female doctor which occurred on Wednesday.
One Mr Olatunji who was a father to a patient, a 2-year-old boy, who passed away at the facility reportedly stormed the paediatric ward on hearing of his son’s death to attack the female doctor, alleging her of insensitivity and nonchalance.
The President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), UITH chapter, Dr Oladepo Adeshina, said the protest was aimed at demanding justice for the assaulted doctor and drawing attention to the increasing attacks on healthcare workers.
The service suspension left many patients stranded across various departments of the hospital, with several waiting for hours without receiving medical attention.
