Weeks before veteran Yoruba actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, died, he had a touching message for his daughter, Kira Taiwo — urging her not to cry and assuring her that he would be fine.
Kira has now shared the emotional exchange with her late father, revealing a heartbreaking glimpse into the final weeks of the 66-year-old actor’s life.
The conversation, dated July 26, showed Ogogo trying to comfort his daughter after apparently hearing that she had been crying over his health.
The veteran actor told Kira that seeing her and her sisters happy gave him strength, but warned that her tears could make him worry.
He urged her to remain strong and trust in Allah, expressing hope that he would pull through.
Kira, in response, reassured her father that she was not crying and told him she had faith in Allah before declaring her love for him.
Ogogo responded affectionately, calling her his “princess” and returning the words of love.
The exchange has taken on a painful significance following Ogogo’s death on Sunday, August 23, at about 3pm, aged 66.
His death came only days after his daughters publicly disclosed that he was battling stage-four cancer and appealed for urgent medical assistance.
The family’s disclosure triggered an outpouring of concern from fans and colleagues, with Kira and her sister, Lima, seeking help from medical professionals as their father’s condition deteriorated.
Kira had said the hospital treating Ogogo could no longer continue chemotherapy, while the family searched for alternative medical options.
A medical expert later explained that moving a patient with advanced cancer towards palliative care does not necessarily mean the patient has been abandoned or refused treatment.
Ogogo, one of the most recognisable faces of Yoruba cinema, died after decades in the industry as an actor, filmmaker and director.
His death has sent shockwaves through Nollywood, with colleagues, fans and admirers mourning the loss of one of Yoruba cinema’s enduring stars.
He is scheduled to be buried today, Monday, August 24, in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, according to Islamic rites.
A burial prayer has been announced for 10am at the Asade Agunloye Pavilion Ground, while a separate lying-in-state ceremony is scheduled for 11am at the Pavilion, Ilaro.
