Security and intelligence analyst, Dr Yahuza Getso, has alleged that traditional rulers, religious leaders, politicians and senior government officials know the locations of permanent bandit camps across the Northwest — yet nothing meaningful is being done to destroy them.
Dr Yahuza Getso made the explosive allegation during an interview with Trust TV, where he also questioned how bandits have continued to move freely in large numbers through known routes in Katsina, Kaduna, Kano and Zamfara states.
According to him, the movements of the criminals are so predictable that their failure to come under sustained military attack raises disturbing questions about possible collusion within the security system.
“I think this is very clear,” he said when asked if he suspected security operatives were working with bandits.
Getso claimed bandits have been using routes around Bakori, Faskari, Sabuwa, Funtua, Dandume and Kankara in Katsina, as well as Birnin Gwari and Giwa in Kaduna, for years.
And he claimed they are not sneaking through in small groups.
“They move in hundreds — not two motorcycles, not three, not five, not ten — but in hundreds,” he alleged.
According to the analyst, the criminals have allegedly been using some of the same corridors every day for about six years without being intercepted.
“There are routes that, 100 percent, within every 24 hours, these criminals pass through, and there has never been an attempt to stop or attack them,” he said.
‘THEY HAVE PERMANENT CAMPS’
Getso further alleged that bandits have established permanent bases in several communities where they allegedly gather, plan attacks and launch operations.
He mentioned areas including Matazu, Musawa, Dan Musa, Charanchi, Batsari, Birnin Magaji, Zurmi and Shinkafi, as well as locations close to the Niger Republic border.
“There are many places where these guys have permanent bases. That is where they meet, strategise and carry out all sorts of atrocities,” he alleged.
He also identified a network of routes linking Malumfashi, Kafur, Matazu, Musawa and Bakori in Katsina to Rogo and Karaye in Kano.
Getso said the continued failure to establish permanent security formations along such routes had allowed the criminals to maintain their grip on rural communities.
He argued that a sustained security presence could have stopped bandits from terrorising residents and made travelling between communities safer.
‘EMIRS, IMAMS, POLITICIANS KNOW!’
But the analyst saved his most damning claim for traditional and political authorities.
Getso alleged that virtually all key leaders in the affected areas already possess information about the locations of bandit camps.
“All the traditional leaders, all the religious leaders, all the political leaders, all the administrative leaders at the macro level have this information. They know about it,” he declared.
The analyst challenged anyone who disagrees with him to confront him publicly.
He insisted he was prepared to put his claims and evidence on the table.
“If they say they don’t know, I am ready to buy one hour on Trust TV or any other media outlet and present my facts against them,” he said.
‘GOVERNORS KNOW TOO’
Asked whether governors of the affected states were also aware of the situation, Getso pointed to previous public statements by governors in the region.
He specifically mentioned Zamfara, Katsina, Kebbi and Sokoto, saying the governors had at different times acknowledged aspects of the security crisis.
“The clips are there on YouTube. Anybody who wants them should go and check,” he said.
Getso’s allegations come amid continuing attacks, kidnappings and displacement across parts of the Northwest, with rural communities facing persistent threats from armed groups.
The claims, however, remain allegations by the analyst and would require independent verification or evidence from relevant authorities.
