A 15-year-old boy, Kelvin Faga, has landed in police custody after allegedly faking his own kidnapping in a desperate plot to extort ₦200,000 from his father.
The teenager reportedly vanished after attending church in Suleja on July 20, 2026, sparking panic in his family. A day later, his relatives received a chilling phone call demanding ₦200,000 ransom and claiming the boy had been kidnapped.
But the plot quickly fell apart.
Police detectives launched an investigation and tracked Kelvin to a hotel in Suleja, where he was found hiding with his 17-year-old accomplice, Mayowa Ojewuyi, popularly known as “Mayor.”
During interrogation, the duo reportedly confessed that they staged the kidnapping themselves, hoping to collect the ransom from Kelvin’s father before sharing the money.
Niger State Police spokesperson, SP Abiodun Wasiu, said both suspects are being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded.
THIEF JAILED TWO YEARS FOR STEALING MOTORCYCLE
In another case, a 22-year-old motorcycle thief, Abubakar Danladi, has been sentenced to two years in prison without the option of a fine.
Danladi, of New-Market area in Minna, was arrested after police and vigilante members caught him with a stolen black TVS motorcycle, registration number GWN 436 QB, which had been taken from outside a lodge in Gidan-Kwano.
The theft was reported to Kpakungu Division on July 26, 2026. Investigators later tracked down the suspect at Dama area near Gidan-Kwano with the stolen motorcycle.
He confessed to the crime during investigation and was convicted by a magistrate, who sentenced him to two years behind bars.
