A viral social media video allegedly promoting premarital sex as a cheaper alternative to marriage has landed a popular Kano TikToker Namadina Tudunwada, in trouble with the state Hisbah Board.
TikToker Namadina Tudunwada was detained by officials of the Tudunwada Command after the board reviewed the video and accused him of promoting illicit sexual relationships.
According to the Hisbah Board, the TikToker allegedly portrayed sex outside marriage as a more affordable option amid the rising cost of getting married.
The board said such a message could influence young people negatively and encourage behaviour considered immoral under the religious and moral values it is mandated to protect.
The Deputy Commander-General of the Kano State Hisbah Board, Dr Mujahid Aminuddeen, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.
Aminuddeen said the authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding the publication of the video, alongside other related materials.
He said the suspect could be charged to court if the investigation establishes grounds for prosecution.
The arrest comes amid growing concerns over the rising cost of marriage in northern Nigeria, with Tudunwada reportedly using his social media platforms to advocate for reducing marriage expenses.
However, the Hisbah Board said the video currently under investigation allegedly crossed the line by presenting fornication as a preferable alternative to marriage.
The board also warned social media influencers and content creators to exercise caution over the messages they push to their followers.
Aminuddeen cautioned that online content capable of eroding public morality or misleading young people could attract legal consequences.
He reaffirmed the board’s commitment to monitoring social media platforms for content it considers contrary to Kano State’s moral and religious values.
The Hisbah chief also urged social media users to be more responsible and mindful of the messages they circulate online.
