Fresh fears over a possible Ebola threat have emerged in Nigeria’s North-East following the identification of two suspected cases of the deadly disease.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), which disclosed this in a statement yesterday, said the two individuals had been isolated as health authorities moved to prevent any possible spread of the virus.

The agency said contact identification and listing had commenced, while laboratory investigations were ongoing to establish whether the suspected cases were indeed Ebola infections.

However, the NCDC cautioned against interpreting the development as confirmation of an Ebola outbreak, stressing that the status of the two individuals would only be determined after laboratory tests.

The latest development has renewed calls for heightened disease surveillance and strict adherence to preventive measures, particularly amid concerns over the spread of infectious diseases.

The NCDC urged Nigerians not to panic but remain vigilant, advising the public to maintain proper hand hygiene, observe environmental sanitation and comply with established public health guidelines.

It also stressed the importance of early reporting and prompt medical attention for anyone exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease.
