Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has raised the alarm over an alleged move by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze the state government’s accounts ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke, through a statement issued on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, claimed he received “credible reports” that the anti-graft agency had concluded plans to block access to Osun’s funds.
The governor also alleged that accounts belonging to some top government officials could be affected, describing the reported move as an attempt to cripple government operations ahead of the election.
According to the statement, Adeleke warned that freezing the state’s accounts, if carried out, would amount to “the height of lawlessness” and insisted there was no legal justification for such action.
He maintained that the EFCC had no legal powers to freeze the account of a state government, adding that any attempt to do so would be aimed at paralysing governance in Osun.
The allegation comes amid heightened political activities ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, where Adeleke of the Accord Party is seeking re-election against All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The governor has repeatedly alleged political pressure and interference aimed at undermining his administration ahead of the poll.
The EFCC is yet to respond to Adeleke’s claim, as political tension continues to build ahead of the August 15 election.
