One Rasheed Wasiu, who was detained for participating in the 2020 #EndSARS protest has been freed.
Orijoreporter recalls that #EndSARS protest, a civil disobedience embarked on by the youth in demand for the disbandment of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SAS who were found of assaulting young people began in October 2020.
It later turned violent in the course of which public properties and that of some individuals were destroyed while suspected perpetrators were arrested, detained and prosecuted.
The news of Wasiu’s freedom was broken by advocacy group, Take It Back Movement.

“This development reinforces our belief that persistence, solidarity and commitment to justice will always yield results,” the statement read.
It added that through sustained advocacy, legal intervention and public pressure, it had secured the release of several other detainees linked to the protest, including Sunday Okoro, Olumide Fatai, Oluwole Yisa, Daniel Joyibo, Adigun Sodiq, Kehinde Shola, Salaudeen Kamilu, Sodiq Usseni and Azeez Isiaka.
