Honourable Dickson Agbor of the Cross River State House of Assembly has been suspended for domestic violence.
Agbor represents Obubra I State Constituency in the House where he was suspended indefinitely on Thursday for perpetrating violence against his wife.
The motion to suspend him was proposed by Hon. Davies Etta, with Francis Bassey Asuquo in turn seconding it.
While making a case for Agbor’s suspension Etta censured him, describing the troubled lawmaker’s behaviour of unbecoming of a legislature and contrary to the ethical standards expected of members of the legislative arm of government.
“We must ensure that members conduct themselves in a manner that reflects the values and responsibilities entrusted to us by the people,” he affirmed.
The Assembly also approved the constitution of an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter and report its findings back to the House for further legislative action while in his own remark the Speaker of the House, Elvert Ayambem said: “The House will not condone any form of misconduct capable of bringing the legislature into disrepute. We must continue to uphold the dignity of this institution.”
