One Ernest Ugbomoiko has been arrested in Edo for circulating false information that bandits had abducted school children in parts of the state, including Afuze, Ehor, Otuo, Agbede, and Igueben.
Ernest is from Afuze community.
The 42 year-old had raised the false alarm, which the police denied.
The Command in a statement signed by its Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, reassured the public that the deployment of security personnel to schools and other vulnerable locations across the state was not in response to the false report, but part of proactive policing strategies that had since been intensified on his directive.
“Parents, guardians, school administrators, and students are advised to go about their lawful activities without fear, as adequate security measures remain in place to guarantee their safety,” the statement quoting the Commissioner of Police(CP) in the state, Monday Agbonika read.
Agbonika, according to the report warned that individuals who deliberately spread false information capable of threatening public peace, undermining security operations, or causing public disorder would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
